Star for Life (SFL) is a nonprofit organisation with the mission to inspire young people to value learning, acquire the knowledge and skills they need for productive work, and live healthy and meaningful lives. SFL has developed a unique set of programmes and workshops that we are currently running in 88 High Schools in South Africa and Namibia to add value to the regular Life Orientation curriculum.

Job Title: Primary School Coach

The purpose of the position is to provide psychosocial support through art to learners in order to achieve SFL Primary school programme objectives


  • Provide an enjoyable and learning environment for the primary school learners
  • Develop each learner an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression
  • Provide psychosocial support to learners
  • Conduct story telling sessions using different arts methods (eg, mascots)
  • Plan and conduct arts workshops
  • Ensure that necessary materials for workshops and other activities are always kept ready
  • Perform all the administrative and reporting functions required for the job
  • Support the programme Monitoring and Evaluation with relevant data and statistics


  • Matric plus a degree in Social Science with Psychology / Counselling or Performing art with Counselling
  • Young and energetic person
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license will be an advantage
  • Fluency in English and a vernacular language
  • Experience working with primary school learners will be an advantage
  • Experience in any form of performing art a must. Skills
  • Desire and willingness to work in a collaborative, innovative, flexible and team-oriented environment
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Report writing skills
  • Willingness to work flexible time
  • Ability to work with small children
