Job Title: Grants Manager
Job Location: Centurion, Gauteng

Main purpose of the job

To lead the provision of effective financial and administrative support services, specifically in the areas of financial management, donor liaison and organizational administration for a large United States Government funded project.

Key performance areas

Budget preparation and management 

  • Liaise with the Senior Project Management regarding preparation and submission of annual budgets
  • Preparation and submission of routine financial and narrative reports specific to the project
  • Liaise with the relevant donor-representatives regarding budget approval, contract approval and transfer of funds
  • Allocate and manage budgets as per contracts
  • Manage the expenditure and reporting requirements of the contract

Compile financial and donor reports 

  • Collect and collate all relevant data from the accounting system
  • Compile monthly management reports and present to the project’s Senior Management team
  • Compile financial reports for donors as per donor requirements
  • Timeously submit all financial and donor reports

Liaison with all relevant stakeholders

  • Communicate and liaise with donor representatives
  • Liaise with finance staff at WHC
  • Liaise with sub-contractors and suppliers as necessary to ensure effective delivery and to maintain proper relations
  • Co-operatively review project reports and modify where necessary

Effective compliance with donor requirements

  • Liaise with donor representatives and compliance officers around donor compliance requirements and ensure prompt and satisfactory resolution of any compliance issues
  • Compile financial policies and procedures which are in line with donor and WHC requirements
  • Implementation of policies and procedures e.g. USAID, Compliance checks with on payments
  • Compliance with donor requirements in terms of reporting
  • Follow up and correcting compliance queries and addressing audit queries

Required minimum education and training

  • B.Com (Accounting) (preferably CA)

Required minimum work experience

  • Minimum 7 years working experience in Accounting and or Financial Management
  • 10 years Project Management experience
  • 5 years of USAID / PEPFAR Grant Management experience

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and own vehicle
  • Experience with USG Code of Federal Regulations and USAID Rules and Regulations is required
  • Knowledge of SAGEX3, IFRS and the SA GAAP
  • Must have experience in a donor-funded environment and must have good understanding of the project management of a large grant
  • Ability to influence, negotiate and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Knowledge of donor and contractual requirements
  • Must have an understanding of M&E and the implementation thereof
  • Organized, thorough and accurate approach to work
  • Resilient with demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Above average computer skills, particularly in MS Excel, MS Access, MS Outlook and MS Word
